The Air Rescue Team of FEMERAID International informs all our members, Knights and Dames of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, Federation of the Autonomous Priories (KMFAP) about the followings:
Typhoid fever may seem like a relic of the past, rare in developed countries, but this ancient killer is still poses a major threat today. According to groundbreaking research published recently, the bacterium behind typhoid is rapidly evolving, gaining extensive resistance to antibiotics and the drug-resistant strains are now overtaking non-resistant ones at an alarming rate.
Only one oral antibiotic remains effective: azithromycin, but even that lifeline is slipping away. If left untreated, typhoid fever can be fatal in up to 1 in 5 cases. Today, an estimated 11 million people worldwide are infected annually. Meanwhile, antibiotic resistance has become one of the leading causes of death, claiming more lives than HIV/AIDS or malaria.
The clock is ticking, vaccines are among our strongest defences, this is not just a warning, but a call to action!
