There are several medical alerts around the world that should be considered before your departure. We have arranged them in alphabetical order and included the details on mitigation actions to reduce exposure when traveling or living in affected areas.

Most of the diseases listed can be prevented through vaccination and practising good hygiene habits.

United States: Human bird flu infections in Colorado state, avoid contact with infected animals. Locally acquired dengue infections in Florida state, avoid mosquito bites. Valley fever infections linked to music festival in Kern county (California state), seek medical attention if symptoms develop.

Afghanistan: Increase in cholera infections, ensure safe food and water consumption, consider vaccination. Increase in measles, ensure vaccination is up to date.

Asia & the Pacific: Bird flu infections, avoid contact with birds and follow hygiene measures. Increasing pertussis, ensure vaccination is up to date.

Australia: Legionnaires' disease in metropolitan Melbourne, seek medical attention if symptoms develop. Pertussis outbreak, ensure vaccination is up to date.

Cambodia: Human cases of bird flu in Takeo province, avoid contact with birds

French Polynesia (France): Pertussis in Tahiti, check vaccination status

India: Hepatitis A in Kerala state, vaccination recommended, select safe food and water. Hyderabad (Telangana state): Increase in norovirus, follow hygiene measures, select safe food and water. Increasing dengue infections, avoid mosquito bites. Zika virus in some states, avoid mosquito bites.

Kiribati: Increase in typhoid fever infections; maintain hygiene, consider vaccination
