From 100 to 0 in just a few days, that’s what happened to the control measures imposed by China on its infected citizens, a single Covid-19 case in China was enough to see entire residential blocks locked down for weeks.
Local authorities shut down their nationwide network of PCR testing booths and said they would stop gathering data on asymptomatic cases, but according to an internal estimate, more than 250 million people in China may have contracted COVID in the first 20 days of December 2022, making this the largest Covid-19 outbreak worldwide to date.
At the moment it seems that the variants causing this tsunami of infections in China are the same ones that have been circulating in Europe for a long time, however the information may not be the most reliable and we may be facing an unknown variant that could lead almost all of us to the beginning of this pandemic, like a return to the START in monopoly.
It won’t take long for the waves of this tsunami to reach the northern hemisphere, hopefully this time with much less impact on hospitalizations and fatalities.
