What more can be said about this avalanche of new COVID-19 cases around the world?
- We did a simple comparison exercise of data from 24th December 2019, and the same day one year later:
- on 24th December 2020, 698,183 new cases were declared, one year later on, 24th December 2021, 982,820 cases were declared, representing an increase of approx. 30% of new infections worldwide.
However, another important figure to look at is that of mortality rates:
- on that same day in 2020, 13,734 deaths were recorded.
- and in 2021 only 5,870 deaths were recorded.
This means a 57% less mortality rate.
This alone proves the success of vaccination.
For all those people who continue to deny the benefit of vaccinations, if we follow the same logic there should have been 45,780 deaths reported on 24th December 2021, and not the lower figure. We have to be very grateful to all health professionals globally, who have led the biggest vaccination campaign in the history of mankind. And also to the millions of people who have taken up the call to be vaccinated, and are now safe and alive; arguably around 40.000 lives were spared in the last year up to
30th December 2021.
