Diseases reported include chikungunya, dengue and malaria. Many cases go unreported and therefore the actual number of cases is expected to be much higher than the official numbers. These illnesses are spread by mosquito bites. Most have symptoms of fever and aches and may involve a rash. There is no specific treatment for chikungunya and dengue but there is medication available to prevent and to treat malaria. Although a vaccine for dengue has been developed, it is only available in a few countries and is not currently used for travellers. First-line prevention against all these diseases is by avoiding mosquito bites.
